To My Lover

by Asta Dido

Dearest Lover

Upon awaking this morning

I hummed my lover, my love

Lying besides me

Come again into my arms with

Come as I came rushing

          to your embrace

With the memories of yesterdays heated tilt

I still see a little spray of tufted hair crusted

            the proof

I touch your shoulder

as if afraid to prick a balloon

While placing a gentile kiss

            you twist

I pray for your blissful awakening my darling

For the most beautiful day for my sweetest

Let the morning sunshine bathe you

I recall with a quick silver shiver

how you nurtured my soul

Here then is the warm sweet fruit

            of love possessed

I love you with maple syrup and hot butter

And cinnamon buns

As you stretch, yawn and coo

To be mine again…
